ஒருமைப்பாடு ஓர் நீண்ட பயணம்
2026ம் ஆண்டும் ஜனவரி 18 – 25 வரையான காலப்பகுதி ஒருமைப்பாட்டு வாராமாக திருச்சபையினால் பிரகடனப்படுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளது. இது 1907ம் ஆண்டு முதல் உரோமன் கத்தோலிக்க ஒருமைப்பாட்டு ஆணைக்குழுவினாலும் அனைத்துலக திருச்சபை மன்றத்தினாலும் ஒன்றிணைந்து மேற்கொள்ளப்படுகின்ற ஓர் நிகழ்வாகும். ஜனவரி 18ம் திகதி புனித பேதுருவின் திருநாள். அத்திருநாளோடு இது ஆரம்பிக்கப்பட்டு ஜனவரி 25ம் திகதி புனித பவுலின் மனமாற்ற திருநாளோடு நிறைவடைகின்றது. இம்முறை ‘ஒரே ஆண்டவர், ஒரே நம்பிக்கை’ என்ற கருப்பொருளிலே நாங்கள் ஒருமைப்பாட்டினைக் குறித்து சிந்தனை பகிர்வுகள் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட உள்ளன.
புனித பவுல் கொரிந்தியருக்கு எழுதிய 2ம் திருமுகம் 5:16-20 வாக்கியங்கள் வரையுள்ள பகுதியில் இவ் ஒருமைப்பாடு கடவுளினால் எமக்குத் தரப்பட்டிருக்கின்ற ஓர் திருப்பணி அல்லது அருட்பணி எனக் கூறுகிறார். எனவே இவ் அருட்பணியை நாம் ஒவ்வொருவரும் ஆற்ற அழைக்கப்படுகின்றோம். குறிப்பாக, கடவுளுடனான ஒருமைப்பாடு, மனிதர்களுடனான ஒருமைப்பாடு, இயற்கையுடனான ஒருமைப்பாடு ஆகிய மூன்று ஒருமைப்பாட்டு நிலைகள் காணப்பட்டாலும் இவ்வாரத்திலே திருச்சபைகளுக்கு இடையிலான இந்த ஒருமைப்பாட்டினை நாம் நினைந்துக் கொள்ள இருக்கின்றோம்.
இவ் ஒருமைப்பாட்டை அடையும் முயற்சியிலே வெறுமையாக்கல் அவசியப்படுகின்றது. பிலிப்பியர் 2:5-11 வரையுள்ள வசனங்களிலே ஒருமைப்பாட்டு பயணத்தில் வெறுமையாக்கலின் அவசியத்தைப் பற்றி பவுல் பேசுகின்றார். எனவே ஒருமைப்பாட்டு பயணத்தை நோக்கி பிரயாணிக்கின்ற நாங்கள் எங்களுடையவைகளை வெறுமையாக்குவதனூடாகவே அவ் இலக்கை அடையமுடியும் என்பது ஓர் பெரிய உண்மையாகும்.
எபேசியர் 4:1-6ம் வசனம் வரையுள்ள பகுதியில் பவுல் எபேசிய திருச்சபைக்கு இவ் ஒருமைப்பாட்டின் முக்கியத்துவத்தைப் பற்றி எழுதுகிறார். திருத்தூதுவர் பணிகள் அல்லது அப்போஸ்தலர் 20ம் அதிகாரத்தில் எபேசுவிலே மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்ட பணிகளைப் பற்றியும் பிரியாவிடை பேச்சைப் பற்றியும் பவுல் நன்கு ஞாபகப்படுத்திக்கொள்ளுகிறார். இவ் ஒருமைப்பாட்டு பயணத்தில் கணவன் மனைவிக்கிடையேயான ஒருமைப்பாடு (எபேசியர் 5:22-30), பெற்றோர் பிள்ளைகளுக்கிடையிலான ஒருமைப்பாடு (எபேசியர் 6:1-4) ஆகிய ஒருமைப்பாடுகளை பவுல் பேசுவதை நாம் பார்க்கின்றோம். இவ் ஒருமைப்பாடு அதிக கிரயமுள்ளது எனவும் அவர் கூறுகிறார். எபேசியர் 2:14-18 வரையுள்ள பகுதியில் “கிறிஸ்துவினுடைய மரணம் பிரிந்து நின்ற இரு திறத்தாரையும் ஒருமைப்படுத்தியது” எனக் கூறி அதை கிரயத்தின் முக்கியத்துவத்தை எமக்குக் காண்பிக்கின்றார்.
இவ் ஒருமைப்பாட்டு பயணத்திலே அதாவது எங்களை ஒருமைப்படுத்துகின்ற காரியங்களை ஒன்றிணைத்து நாம் பிரயாணிப்பதன் அவசியத்தை அவர் சுட்டிக்காண்பிக்கிறார். எங்கள் எல்லோருக்கும் ஒரே கடவுள், ஒரே அருட்சாதனங்கள், ஒரே நம்பிக்கை, ஒரே தூய ஆவி என அடுக்கிக் கொண்டே செல்லுகின்றார். எனவே நாங்கள் நம்புகின்ற கடவுள் தூய ஆவியர் நாம் பெற்றுக்கொள்ளுகின்ற திருவருட்சாதனங்கள் அனைத்துமே எங்களை ஒரே நம்பிக்கைக்குள் அழைத்துச் செல்ல வேண்டும். இந்நம்பிக்கை கிரயமானது பெறுமதியானது. எனவே இன்று நாங்கள் எங்களை பிரித்து நிற்கும் கருவிகளைக் குறித்து சிந்திக்காமல் நாம் ஒருவர் மற்றொருவருடைய திருப்பணியை அங்கீகரிக்கவும் அதற்கூடாக ஒரே இலக்கை நோக்கி நம்பிக்கையை நோக்கி பிரயாணிப்பதுமே இவ் ஒருமைப்பாட்டு வாரம் எங்களை உணர்த்தி நிற்கின்றது. எனவே இம்முறைத் தலைப்பினை ஓர் மன்றாடலாகக் கொண்டு எங்களுடைய நம்பிக்கைகளை புதுப்பித்துக் கொள்வது அவசியமாகின்றது. 1700 வருட பழைமையைக் கொண்ட நிசேயா பற்றுறுதியைக் குறித்து நாம் சிந்திக்கின்ற இக்காலப்பகுதிகளில் நாம் அறிக்கையிடுகின்ற பற்றுறுதி எம்மை ஒருமைப்பாட்டிற்குள் அழைத்துச் செல்ல வேண்டும்.
எனவே நிறுவனமயமான ஒருமைப்பாடோ அல்லது ஒரே குடையின் கீழ் வந்துசேரும் ஒருமைப்பாடோ வரும்வரை நாங்கள் ஒருவர் மற்றவரை மதித்து அந்த இலக்கை நோக்கி பிரயாணப்படுவது அவசியம். சிறப்பாக இவ் இலக்கை நோக்கி ஆரம்பத்திலேயே பயணித்துக் கொண்டு வருகிற 1947ம் ஆண்டு உருவாக்கப்பட்ட தென்னிந்திய திருச்சபையினுடைய மாதிரி, 1912ம் ஆண்டு இலங்கையில் உருவாக்கப்பட்ட தேசிய கிறிஸ்தவ சங்கம், 1939ம் ஆண்டு உருவாக்கப்பட்ட யாழ்ப்பாணத்திலிருக்கும் ஆச்சிரமம், 1951ம் ஆண்டு உருவாக்கப்பட்ட உரையாடலுக்கும் கற்கைக்குமான கிருளைப்பனையில் இருக்கும் நிறுவனம், 1963ம் ஆண்டு இலங்கையில் உருவாக்கப்பட்ட இலங்கை இறையியற் கல்லூரி போன்றவைகள் ஒருமைப்பாட்டினுடைய ஒளிச்சுடர்கள் ஆகும். சர்வதேச ரீதியில் உருவாக்கப்பட்ட 1844ம் ஆண்டு உருவாக்கப்பட்ட லுஆஊயு அமைப்பு, 1955ல் உருவாக்கப்பட்ட லுறுஊயு அமைப்பு, 1895ம் ஆண்டு உருவாக்கப்பட்ட அகில உலக மாணவர் அமைப்பு, 1910ம் ஆண்டில் உருவாக்கப்பட்ட அனைத்துலக மன்ற தூதுப்பணி அமைப்பு, 1948ல் உருவாக்கப்பட்ட அனைத்துலக திருச்சபை மன்றம், 1957ல் உருவாக்கப்பட்ட ஆசிய கீழைத்தேய ஒருமைப்பாட்டு அமைப்பு, 1973ல் உருவாக்கப்பட்ட ஆசிய கிறிஸ்தவ சங்கம் போன்றவற்றினுடைய கரங்களை பலப்படுத்தி இந் நம்பிக்கைக்காக ஒருமித்து உழைக்க ஒன்றுபடுவோம் வாருங்கள்.
ஒருமைப்பாட்டிற்காக தரப்பட்டுள்ள திருமறைப்பகுதிகளைப் பார்க்கும்போது இவ் ஒருமைப்பாடு செயல்வடிவம் சார்ந்ததாக அமைய வேண்டுமென ஏசாயா 58ம் அதிகாரம் எங்களோடு பேசுகின்றது. மேலும் இந்த ஒருமைப்பாடு ஏற்படுகின்றபோது அது மகிழ்ச்சி நிறைந்த ஒரு அனுபவம் என திருப்பாடல்; 133 பேசுகின்றது. “சகோதரர் ஒருமித்து வாசம் செய்வது எவ்வளவு நன்மையும் இன்பமுமானது” எனக் கூறுகின்றது. மேலும் நற்செய்தி வாசகத்திலே யோவான் 12:31-36 வரையுள்ள பகுதியிலே இந்த ஒருமைப்பாட்டு அனுபவம் மிகவும் கடினமான அனுபவம். அது சிலுவைச் சுமக்கின்ற அனுபவம். எனவேதான் இயேசு சொல்லுகிறார், “நான் உயர்த்தப்பட்ட பின்னர் எல்லோரையும் இணைத்துக் கொள்ளுவேன் அல்லது என்பால் ஈர்த்துக்கொள்ளுவேன்” என்பது இதற்காக நாம் கிரயம் செலுத்த வேண்டிய ஒரு செயற்பாடு உண்டு என்பதையும் எமக்கு உணர்த்துகின்றது. எனவே இத்திருமறை வாசகங்களைச் சுமந்தவர்களாக இவ்வாரத்துக்குள்ளே பிரயாணிப்போம்.
There is one Body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one Hope of your calling (Unity Sunday)
The Church has declared January 18–25, 2026 as the Week of Unity. This is an event that has been observed jointly by the Roman Catholic Unity Commission and the World Council of Churches since 1907.
The Week of Unity begins on January 18, the feast day of Saint Peter, and ends on January 25, the feast of the Conversion of Saint Paul.
This year, reflections will be shared on the theme “One Lord, One Faith.”
In 2 Corinthians 5:16–20, Saint Paul says that unity is a mission or ministry given to us by God. Therefore, each one of us is called to take part in this ministry.
Although unity can be seen in three ways—unity with God, unity with other people, and unity with nature—during this week we especially remember unity among churches.
To achieve unity, self-emptying is necessary. In Philippians 2:5–11, Paul speaks about the importance of self-emptying on the journey toward unity. This shows us a great truth: we can reach the goal of unity only by letting go of our own pride and possessions.
In Ephesians 4:1–6, Paul writes to the church in Ephesus about the importance of unity. He remembers the ministry he carried out in Ephesus and his farewell speech, as described in Acts chapter 20.
Paul also speaks about unity between husband and wife (Ephesians 5:22–30) and between parents and children (Ephesians 6:1–4). He says that unity comes at a great cost.
In Ephesians 2:14–18, he explains that Christ’s death united two divided groups into one, showing us the deep cost of unity.
On this journey of unity, Paul points out the need to hold together the things that unite us. He reminds us that we have one God, one Spirit, one faith, and one set of sacraments.
The God we believe in, the Holy Spirit, and the sacraments we receive should lead us into one faith. This faith is costly and precious.
Therefore, instead of focusing on what divides us, we are called to recognize one another’s ministry and journey together toward a common goal of faith. This is the message of the Week of Unity.
For this reason, we are invited to take this year’s theme as a prayer and renew our faith. As we reflect on the Nicene Creed, which is about 1700 years old, the faith we confess should lead us toward unity.
Until we reach full institutional unity, or unity under one structure, it is important that we respect one another and continue the journey together.
Early examples of this journey include:
The Church of South India (formed in 1947),
The National Christian Council of Sri Lanka (formed in 1912),
The Jaffna Ashram (formed in 1939),
The Institute for Dialogue and Study at Gurulupotha (formed in 1951),
The Sri Lanka Theological College (formed in 1963).
These are beacons of unity.
At the international level, organizations such as:
the YMCA (1844),
the YWCA (1855),
the World Student Christian Federation (1895),
the International Missionary Council (1910),
the World Council of Churches (1948),
the Christian Conference of Asia (1957),
and the Asian Christian Council (1973),
have played important roles. Let us strengthen their work and join together to serve this hope.
When we look at the Bible passages given for unity, Isaiah 58 tells us that unity must be practical and active.
Psalm 133 says that unity is a joyful experience:
“How good and pleasant it is when brothers and sisters live together in unity.”
In the Gospel reading John 12:31–36, we see that the experience of unity is very difficult. It is an experience of carrying the cross. That is why Jesus says,
“When I am lifted up, I will draw everyone to myself.”
This reminds us that unity requires sacrifice and cost.
Therefore, carrying these Scripture readings in our hearts, let us journey together during this Week of Unity.
